Description: Formerly known as "Peking Review", the weekly Beijing Review was established in March 1958 as a successor to the semi-monthly "People's Daily" (1950-1957). It is published in more than twenty languages and covers "[...] China's economic and social developments and carries important documents of the Chinese government and speeches made by state leaders" (self description). Short articles deliver the official view on China's economic and social developments.
Archive: Back issues of last few months are available, but no search is possible. The on-line edition offers only a selection of the articles available in the paper edition.

Description: Established in 1987 as Chinese edition of AsiaWeek, Yazhou zhoukan today is part of the HK Ming Pao Group, with a 50% share held by the big Hong Kong Internet company TOM.COM (TOM.COM is also the owner of the very popular Chinese portal 163.net). According to a TOM.COM announcement, the paper "enjoys a worldwide Chinese readership and is widely read by business executives, senior government officials and opinion leaders in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China and South East Asia".
Availability: Back issues are available on-line from vol. 15, no. 16 (22 Apr. 2001). Older issues down to vol. 13, no. 1 (3 Jan. 1999) can also be accessed using the URL http://www.yzzk.com/yyyynn/yzmain.htm, where yyyy represents the year (four digits) and nn the number (two digits). No search possible.

Description: A source of well informed articles on current issues pertaining to the PR China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, written by well known analysts mainly from Asia and the US. However, bear in mind that though "independent" and "nonpartisan", the articles do reflect Jamestown's view of East Asia as a potential "threat to democracy and freedom" (see above).
