I'd like to express my thanks to Fabrizio Pregadio, who came up with the idea to maintain an extra bibliographies page as part of the IGCS. Within no time he got this page up and running, maintaining it much as his many other contributions to the sinological public with great care and professionalism. - HL

    Language: English.
Self description: "Since 1941 the Bibliography of Asian Studies has been the standard bibliographical tool in the field of Asian studies, published in increasingly bulky annual volumes. It encompasses the full content of the annual printed volumes of the BAS from the 1971 to the 1991 editions (the 1992 edition will not be published in printed form). In addition, there are many references to publications after 1991, including citations to all articles from the 100 most-used journals in Asian studies (nearly up to the present in many cases), and a substantial number of additional citations from earlier years in South Asian studies. BAS compilation continues and the dataset will be augmented regularly, with the intention of bringing it up to date as quickly as possible."

Yangtze Patrol: American Naval Forces in China. A Selected, Partially-Annotated Bibliography (Mike Hanson, Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, USA)
    Language: English.
Self description: "[...] For nearly a hundred years, from the middle of the nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth, the United States Navy patrolled the river, protecting American citizens and interests. [...] Now, the Yangtze River Patrol Memorial Foundation has honored the Naval Postgraduate School's Knox Library by selecting it as a repository for their book collection, records, and memorabilia. This is particularly appropriate given that the library's namesake, Commodore Dudley Knox, commanded the gunboat U.S.S. Iris during China's Boxer Rebellion of a century ago. The honor, we acknowledge, brings with it the Great Responsibility to care for the collection, to augment and improve it, to document it, and to make it available for scholarly researchers. The compilation of this modest bibliography is the first public step toward that goal. [...] In creating this partially-annotated bibliography, the intent was that it should be an 'entertaining' as well as an 'informative' work. An attempt was made to select cogent snippets from the comments and works of others that would, when taken together, provide a sort of broad overview of the times, the issues, and the events. In other words, a reader who knew nothing about the Yangtze Patrol could peruse this bibliography and come away not only enlightened and intrigued but also motivated to delve into some of the works cited herein."

Language: English, Titles listed in original language, with Chinese (UTF-8).
Self description: "This is a working bibliography of translations from the Chinese Canon with the aim of later inputting these to enable parallel reading of the original and the translation. Generally, I have limited it to translations that were done from the Chinese, or with the help of a Chinese version (in case of doubt they were included). Translations from languages other than Chinese were in principle not included or mentioned only in passim. As for target languages, "western" means every European language. A bibliography of translations into Japanese, Korean, Tibetan or modern Chinese, though of course desirable, does so far exceed our resources. The biggest gaps are in Chan/Zen-related texts, translations done in the nineties, and translations that appeared as articles."
Description: The translations are sorted by Taisho number, Chinese characters and Pinyin are also given. This site is part of the "CBS Comprehensive Online Buddhist Resources" (http://ccbs.ntu.edu.tw/), but has no direct link.

    Language: English.
Self description: "The historical subjects covered by this bibliography span from the origin of the Chinese civilisation until the Qing period (1644-1911), with the inclusion of some entries referring to the Republican Period and the PRC as well as to music, as far as it focuses on metrological problems. We have tried to be as inclusive as possible in the collection of materials and the compilation of the entries, but given the output of publications nowadays and the often very marginal character of publications dealing with historical metrology this can only be a first attempt at providing historians, especially those investigating economic and institutional history, with a reference tool that may prove helpful for their research. We have not only included articles and books written in Chinese and English, but also such in Japanese, French, German, Russian, and even Korean."
Description: This is an impressive list of both monographs and articles on the topic, although annotations to the works listed (or at least to the more important ones) are direly missing, as are introductory remarks on each chapter.
